Abstract
This project is a report on our Indigenous language Hul’q’umi’num’ and the role it plays in First Nations archaeology. In particular, I relate the experiences I have had working on the sites in the Stz’uminus territory, including giving their Indigenous placenames. I detail how language is used on the site for protocol and spiritual purposes. My reports are written in the Hul’q’umi’num’ language in order to substantiate the results for all time and for legal purposes. Wordings around archaeology and artifacts are also given in this project. When all work has gone well using Hul’q’umi’num’, we find that we are connected with the waters, lands, and ancestors. These are guiding principles that have guided the Stz’uminus peoples through time immemorial.
