Art is an important part of our culture and traditions. As part of our HLCS project work we try to provide workshops around Coast Salish artistic traditions and Hul’q’umi’num’ language. We work with skilled artists and mentors to deliver workshops to community members. In the past our workshops have included cedar weaving, Coast Salish knitting, sewing ribbon skirts, basket making, Devil’s Club jewelry, beading, and weaving with tule and bullrush. Participants had the opportunity to learn these important art forms, practice Hul’q’umi’num’ language, and engage in harvesting activities for plant-based materials.
